Morgan + John + A Lot of BOYS || Logan, Utah Lifestyle Family Photographer

Snuggling families in cozy clothes, playing with toys, jumping on beds, and being together in their happy homes make for the best pictures.  And going into this family’s beautiful home and capturing just a bit of their lives was no different.  John and Morgan are my step uncle and aunt, and it’s been fun watching their family grow one boy at a time.  Seeing them all together hanging out at home was a little chaotic but so awesome at the same time! Morgan literally has a heart of gold and the patience of a saint and is the best momma to this crew! And John….well, he provides the entertainment for sure (see below….).  And then there’s Gus, because no family is complete without the love of a dog!

I absolutely loved being invited into this home and taking these pictures.  I think that looking back on lifestyle pictures will be such a treasure to these kids and parents some day.  My lifestyle pics of my own little ones are my favorite, too.  They really do capture a little sliver of time.  I love doing these shoots!

You’ll never meet a better person to give you a push through pregnancy than Jess.  I met Jess when I started attending her BirthFit class while I was pregnant with Holland.  It’s a crossfit like class that Jess is certified to teach to pregnant women and extends into a post partum class after baby comes.  I also did a pregnancy educational class with my hubby that Jess taught, and it helped me in so many ways to be prepared for labor and delivery.  So you can imagine my excitement when after having my little lady, Jess found out that she was pregnant with her first lil’ lady, too!!!

Our families are pretty similar – 2 boys, then a girl, so I loved doing these pictures for Jess and Josh and their kids.  Our kids even have pretty similar personalities (except her baby girl is super sweet…. and mine is…. well… a red head), so it was fun to work with them all and laugh about all the similarities and craziness both Jess and I are going through right now! Sweet baby Reagan was a princess for the entire session.  She was so calm and easy and just oh, so sweet! Jess and Josh just built the most beautiful house that was absolutely perfect for the shoot, and Miss Reagan’s nursery was absolutely adorable.  Her momma posts on Instagram about that swinging chair being their happy place, and I can see why!  I loved doing these pictures and cuddling baby girl.  And I loved seeing Jess as a momma to her!

This session has me all heart eyes and I can’t stop thinking about it!! When I met up with Lindy and her fam at the Antelope Island gate, it was pretty evident we were in for a REALLY windy night.  But since everyone was already ready for their pictures, we decided to still shoot and schedule another night if the pictures didn’t work out due to the wind.  And let me tell ya, it was rough!! It was super hard trying to get the typical “family looking at the camera” shot because the wind kept blowing hair everywhere, but it really helped out with all the candid shots we did for the session.  And I’m in love. Wind just adds a natural element to pictures that is hard to capture without it.  I guess that’s why they put giant fans on models for photoshoots. I love what it did for these pictures.  The series of pics of Lindy and her littlest guy, Cal, may be my favorite mother/son captures I’ve ever done.  And the black and white shot of sweet little Kinley on the beach – I’m obsessed.  So even though we weren’t able to get a ton of “perfect” family ones (ya know, the one for the Christmas cards where everyone’s hair isn’t standing straight up in the wind), I’m in love with the ones we did get of the family just being together on the beach.  There’s something so real and intimate about them and they capture what a family really is – maybe a little bit messy, but a lot of love!

Every family has one.  You know what I’m talking about…. right??? That’s right… the cray cray dog lady.  And in my family, it’s my sister – Emma. I don’t know exactly how it happened, but all of a sudden one day, Em showed up with the most adorable puppy I’ve ever seen.  And I don’t even like dogs (or animals. Side story: my family dog bit my heels when I was a toddler, so we’re pretty sure that’s why I’m terrified of like ALL animals.  Like, I literally wouldn’t stick my finger in a goldfish bowl for fear of getting bit.  My 7 year old often asks why I don’t like animals and I have to tell him it’s just the way God made me.) ANYWAY, back to Emma. Emma is the epitome of the crazy dog lady.  She has travel dog dishes in her car, pays for doggy day care, has spent thousands of dollars on vet bills (Ellie is a bit high maintenance), and, oh yea…. she did a cake smash for Ellie’s first birthday.  If all these things don’t spell out really weird adorable, I don’t know what does. I do have to admit though – when she comes to visit our house, walking into a room with Ellie on the couch or Ellie laying on the kitchen floor just makes my home look more cozy.  Like a giant dog fur ball rug.  Love you Emma and Ellie!! Glad you’re the crazy in the family and not me!! (Who am I kidding…. I have three kids.  I’m definitely more crazy.)

Guys. This session had me so excited from the moment Sri approached me to do it. We were chatting earlier this year at Abbi and Jake’s wedding, and Sri brought up that she wanted to do a First Year Anniversary shoot with her husband, Parker. But she didn’t just want a portrait shoot. She wanted more of a lifestyle feel and also wanted to include her wedding dress in some of the pictures. I told Sri I thought Station Studio would be the perfect place for her shoot, and to contact me when they were ready to do it.

Fast forward a while later and Sri set it up!! I love doing shoots that are different from my typical sessions because it gets my creativity flowing. I enjoyed doing doing some research (read: pinterest searching) before this shoot to get some good ideas of how all the amazing lifestyle photographers work with couples to get the most real shots. I had some ideas in mind, but I knew a lot of it would depend on how open and comfortable Sri and Parker were in front of the camera. And man, did they KILL it!! These two were a dream to work with. But it wasn’t because they were good at modeling – it was because they are completely in love with each other and weren’t affraid to show it for the camera. And I’m in love with what were able to capture because of it!! It was sooooo much fun, and these two were the perfect couple to do a session like this with. I loved the whole day!
