I was so excited to meet baby Kate for her session! Her momma is one of my good friends from our days of being student wives at Creighton in Omaha, Nebraska.  Now we’re both back in Utah and both have baby girls to add to our broods of boys…. except Laura has THREE boys before getting her lil princess finally! It was fun to see her girly girl room, and I loved watching Laura cuddling her lady. It was great to stop by and do these quick pictures for them!

I met Kim and Chris through our ward at church, and this is a family I’m grateful we live by! They probably don’t know this, but Chis has always stood out to me at church.  He was a primary teacher when I was the pianist in the primary, and I would watch every Sunday as Chris would take the time to give special attention to one of his class members who had a hard time sitting through the three hours of church (let’s be honest…. who doesn’t have a hard time sitting through three hours of church?!).  Chris was so patient with this little one, and it was very tender to watch.  Kim and I have become fast friends since our little girls are really close in age and going through all those “fun” stages together.  One of the first times we talked was while we were both out in the hall during sacrament because of said one year olds.  Holland, my daughter, had her bottle with her.  Maia, Kim’s daughter, kept eying it.  Holland walked over towards Maia holding out her bottle as if she were going to share it.  As Maia reached for it, Holland chucked it away.  Such a little brat – but they’ve been lil friends since then! They get into all sorts of trouble together every Sunday and go on nap strikes together, too.    It will be fun to watch them grow together!

Kim wanted to get some family pictures, but with how cold it is we though it best to rent out Station Studio for the shoot! And it was perfect!! Coupled with the most adorable lil outfits on the girls, everything came together well! I am in love with the fact that we have such an amazing studio to use in the valley now for indoor photos so no more freezing cold babies and rescheduling for bad weather!  This was such a perfect session and I’m completely in love with all these pictures!!!

Morgan + John + A Lot of BOYS || Logan, Utah Lifestyle Family Photographer

Snuggling families in cozy clothes, playing with toys, jumping on beds, and being together in their happy homes make for the best pictures.  And going into this family’s beautiful home and capturing just a bit of their lives was no different.  John and Morgan are my step uncle and aunt, and it’s been fun watching their family grow one boy at a time.  Seeing them all together hanging out at home was a little chaotic but so awesome at the same time! Morgan literally has a heart of gold and the patience of a saint and is the best momma to this crew! And John….well, he provides the entertainment for sure (see below….).  And then there’s Gus, because no family is complete without the love of a dog!

I absolutely loved being invited into this home and taking these pictures.  I think that looking back on lifestyle pictures will be such a treasure to these kids and parents some day.  My lifestyle pics of my own little ones are my favorite, too.  They really do capture a little sliver of time.  I love doing these shoots!

You’ll never meet a better person to give you a push through pregnancy than Jess.  I met Jess when I started attending her BirthFit class while I was pregnant with Holland.  It’s a crossfit like class that Jess is certified to teach to pregnant women and extends into a post partum class after baby comes.  I also did a pregnancy educational class with my hubby that Jess taught, and it helped me in so many ways to be prepared for labor and delivery.  So you can imagine my excitement when after having my little lady, Jess found out that she was pregnant with her first lil’ lady, too!!!

Our families are pretty similar – 2 boys, then a girl, so I loved doing these pictures for Jess and Josh and their kids.  Our kids even have pretty similar personalities (except her baby girl is super sweet…. and mine is…. well… a red head), so it was fun to work with them all and laugh about all the similarities and craziness both Jess and I are going through right now! Sweet baby Reagan was a princess for the entire session.  She was so calm and easy and just oh, so sweet! Jess and Josh just built the most beautiful house that was absolutely perfect for the shoot, and Miss Reagan’s nursery was absolutely adorable.  Her momma posts on Instagram about that swinging chair being their happy place, and I can see why!  I loved doing these pictures and cuddling baby girl.  And I loved seeing Jess as a momma to her!

This session has me all heart eyes and I can’t stop thinking about it!! When I met up with Lindy and her fam at the Antelope Island gate, it was pretty evident we were in for a REALLY windy night.  But since everyone was already ready for their pictures, we decided to still shoot and schedule another night if the pictures didn’t work out due to the wind.  And let me tell ya, it was rough!! It was super hard trying to get the typical “family looking at the camera” shot because the wind kept blowing hair everywhere, but it really helped out with all the candid shots we did for the session.  And I’m in love. Wind just adds a natural element to pictures that is hard to capture without it.  I guess that’s why they put giant fans on models for photoshoots. I love what it did for these pictures.  The series of pics of Lindy and her littlest guy, Cal, may be my favorite mother/son captures I’ve ever done.  And the black and white shot of sweet little Kinley on the beach – I’m obsessed.  So even though we weren’t able to get a ton of “perfect” family ones (ya know, the one for the Christmas cards where everyone’s hair isn’t standing straight up in the wind), I’m in love with the ones we did get of the family just being together on the beach.  There’s something so real and intimate about them and they capture what a family really is – maybe a little bit messy, but a lot of love!
